Planning Superintendent

We are seeking an experienced Planning Superintendent to lead maintenance planning across our terminal operations.

This is a critical leadership role requiring strong technical planning capability, operational awareness, and the ability to build resilient systems that perform in highly dynamic, safety-critical environments.

The Planning Superintendent is responsible for short-term and long-term maintenance planning across key terminal assets, including Quay Cranes, Automated Stacking Cranes, and Shuttle equipment. This role is supported by scheduler and technical superintendents. The role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Stores, and Maintenance teams to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable execution of work in an environment where priorities can change rapidly due to vessel movements and customer demands.

Key Responsibilities

Short-Term Planning (Week-to-Week)

The short-term planning horizon is fast-moving and requires close coordination with Operations.

You will:

  • Identify and maximize available maintenance windows on Cranes.
  • Adjust plans in response to berthing schedule requirements.
  • Balance operational demands with safety, labor constraints, and maintenance priorities.

Long-Term Planning (Monthly / Quarterly)

The long-term focus is on ensuring work is fully prepared and ready for execution when it reaches the execution work week.

You will:

  • Define labor requirements, materials, parts, and work methods.
  • Plan and arrange all required equipment well in advance (e.g. cranes, EWPs, bucket lifts).
  • Develop job bundles to execute when extended equipment availability allows, ensuring parts availability, safety interactions are managed and critical-path work is not compromised.
  • Forecast resource requirements and develop contingency plans to manage labor and priority changes driven by vessel movements.
  • Ensure a continuous, safe workflow without compromising critical-path timing.

Leadership & Systems Expectations

As a senior leader, you will:

  • Lead with integrity, accountability, and transparency.
  • Build and continuously improve planning systems, processes, and standards.
  • Foster strong collaboration across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering/Reliability, and Safety.
  • Promote a culture of safety first, disciplined execution, and continuous improvement.
  • Use data and forward planning to reduce reactive work and improve asset availability.
  • Manage key contracts and setting up programmed maintenance e.g. servicing light vehicles, air conditioners, tyres.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in maintenance planning and scheduling within a heavy-industry environment (e.g. ports, mining, rail, manufacturing, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of high-risk equipment and safety-critical operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage both tactical and strategic planning horizons.
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • A systems-thinking mindset with experience in developing, embedding, and improving planning frameworks.
  • Alignment with DP World values, including safety, integrity, collaboration, and excellence.
