Responsibilities

The General Manager Fleet takes full operational and leadership responsibility for overseeing the operations and management of Contractor and DHL owned fleet, including trucks, trailers and vans. The role will ensure efficient and compliant running of the DHL owned fleet, ensuring the fleet is fully utilised, serviced & compliant for use, driver scheduling and ensuring service levels are improved whilst overseeing the fleet team to ensure alignment to Strategy, Utilisation, Compliance, cost controls and improvement opportunities. The role also manages relevant fleet insurance policies and subsequent insurance claims and new and evolving sustainability solutions e.g. EV vehicles.

More specifically:

• Full responsibility for budgetary targets, service/ productivity levels and cost controls
• Manage insurance policies to ensure suitable coverage of fleet assets
• Manage insurance events - up to 700 insurance events annually
• Maintain excellent DHL Supply Chain culture of Safety & Compliance
• Develop a high performance service culture within the functional department. Plan, organize and direct efficient and effective functional department. Develop IKOs/KPIs with team members and monitor individual performance
• Promote sustainable solution opportunities e.g. EV vehicles

We're keen to speak to people who have the following skills & experience

To succeed in this demanding role, you will need to have a high-level knowledge and understanding of fleet operations, and people, and be able to effectively prioritize these to ensure the key time critical milestones are achieved. You will also be required to have sound knowledge of all facets of Supply Chain Operations and have experience of managing a large fleet from acquisition through to resale.

• Significant experience of working as a senior leader managing a large fleet – ours is circa 1300 trucks, trailers & vans
• Demonstrable experience in driving performance to ensure long term growth of the business and achieve business plan objectives including profitability
• Demonstrable history of developing long term strategic partnerships to the highest stakeholder level within industry
• Leading and developing a highly capable team
• Clear communication, influencing, leadership and relationship building with an ability to partner with the business to drive key outcomes
• Be a strong and effective communicator with the ability to influence across a broad spectrum of internal & external stakeholders
• Strong communication skills with the ability to coach and mentor.
• Advanced MS Office; specifically Excel and Power Point
